Megan Spaeth is a licensed acupuncturist and owner of Jersey Shore Acupuncture, LLC. She had the incredible honor of studying Classical Chinese Medicine with the highly respected, Dr. Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest and internationally-renowned teacher. At graduation, Dr. Yuen gifts each of his students a Chinese character that he writes in calligraphy. He spoke, “The character I want to present to Megan is a reflection of her already. That’s the character, Ming. Ming means to brighten up. It’s a gift to make people feel lighter. May she continue to shine and brighten up the lives of many who will come before her as patients and those around her now.”
In Chinese medicine, the healing mechanism is often compared to the phenomenon of light. Acupuncturists do not destroy nor heal disease but use the body’s alchemical, healing powers to transform it. Acupuncture encourages light to enter into darkness so that the darkness will then become light. Dr. Yuen once said, “Acupuncture needles are like a beam of sunlight shining through a dark glass. With all that is revealed, the body begins to change.” Megan strives to be a channel through which the Divine can heal. She feels quite blessed to have found the miraculous medium of acupuncture to help others on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level every day.
Megan has a podcast called “Megan’s Medicine” where she shares the beauty and depth of Chinese Medicine through her lens as a Fire personality, as a mother, as a sister, and as an eternal student.
Classical Chinese Medicine refers to the study of acupuncture before the 1950’s. At that time, China was under a Communist regime and the medicine became standardized and limited. Around most of the world today, students are taught this more standardized version, which is called Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, and focuses on 12 primary channels. Practitioners who are fortunate enough to learn Classical medicine are adept at treating 70 acupuncture channels. Megan has a very rich background of information and has learned that classical acupuncture can heal as deeply as the patient is willing. This medicine will spark a chain of healing events, but often it is up to the patient to make lifestyle changes in order to sustain health. Thus, she provides various types of counseling in Chinese dietary therapy, exercise, supplements, and the mind-body connection.
Megan graduated with a Bachelor of Professional Studies and a Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture from Swedish Institute of Health Sciences in New York, NY. At that accredited program, Megan completed over 3,000 hours of training and then became board-certified and NJ State licensed. She received her undergraduate degree from The College of New Jersey, graduating magna cum laude.
